EPA Proposal Will Update Emissions Requirements for New Residential Wood Heaters

WASHINGTON, DC - According to a press release from the Hearth, Patio, and Barbecue Association (HPBA), an overview of proposed updates from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA shown above) would affect many categories of solid fuel burning products.

EPA officials released the formal draft of their revisions to the New Source Performance Standards for Wood Heaters (NSPS), and the proposal will be formally published in the Federal Register later this month.

Publication in the Federal Register will begin the formal comment period for which HPBA has been preparing over the last four years. The rule contains many potential changes to how the industry will do business and how wood burning products are to be certified. This proposal will impact all wood stoves, pellet stoves, and hydronic heaters made in the future.

During the coming months, HPBA will be holding meetings for manufacturers, by sections, to review the industry position and its comments on the matter. HPBA also has an offer from the Small Business Administration to co-sponsor a webinar on how manufacturers can provide comments. That session will be scheduled soon.

HPBA is urging its members to download and read the EPA’s entire fact sheet.
