WASHINGTON, DC - After narrowing down the field to 14 finalists, judges at the Wood Stove Decathlon in Washington, DC, presented the Wittus Twinfire with an award for second place.
The Decathlon challenges teams to design and build wood stoves that are low-emission, high efficiency, innovative and affordable. Consumer publications such as Popular Mechanics reported that the Wittus Twinfire shared the $10,000 second prize, while scoring highest in the efficiency category.
“These award-winning technologies are part of the solution for millions of Americans to reduce their reliance on fossil heating fuels,” said John Ackerly (via the ForGreenHeat Blog), founder and president of the Alliance for Green Heat, which organized the Wood Stove Decathlon. “We’d like to thank all the teams for participating and contributing to an ongoing educational effort to help the US government appreciate the potential of cleaner and more efficient wood heating.”
Known for its Fire By Design, Wittus combines modern manufacturing techniques with old fashioned blacksmith hand craftsmanship. Top quality, sturdy steel, special hand-crafted ceramic, and Finnish soapstone are used in construction.
