Walpole and Sroka Team Up for 2015 DC Design House

WALPOLE, MA – Walpole Outdoors, a manufacturer and distributor of architectural landscape products and structures, and Sroka Designs, a Washington D.C.-based interior design firm, have teamed up to create a high-end outdoor entertainment space for the 2015 D.C. Design House.

Skip Sroka, owner and founder of Sroka Designs, was tasked to transform the home’s outdoor brick terrace into a luxury entertaining space. When specifying products for the project, Sroka immediately turned to Walpole Outdoors for a custom-designed architectural structure to be the focal point of the outdoor area.

“I have used Walpole over the past two decades to design many outdoor pieces for me,” said Sroka. “Walpole Outdoors’ cellular PVC products never chip, rot or age; it is the perfect outdoor material.”

Sroka wanted the outdoor entertaining area to be noticed from the moment one entered the home. He coordinated with Walpole Outdoors’ team of experts to design the structure to match the height and architecture of the house.

“Skip has an outstanding talent for balancing clients’ design preferences with functionality to suit to their lifestyles,” explained Walpole Outdoors president Lou Maglio. “When Skip requested the custom project for the D.C. Design House, we were more than happy to oblige, especially given the important cause funded by the home.”

For added visual interest, the details of the Walpole Outdoors cellular PVC vertical columns feature a “Palm Beach meets Hollywood outdoor fusion,” while Robert Allen Fabrics were used for the outdoor furniture. The varied shades of blue, chartreuse and white give the space an airy and almost coastal ambiance, an unexpected yet appreciated characteristic for this McLean, Va. home.  Combined with the geometrically lush landscaping and brick-laden hardscaping by Fine Landscapes, Ltd., the backyard space was designed with luxurious leisure and entertainment in mind.

The 2015 D.C. Design House brings together talented designers, design industry manufacturers, sponsors, and other helping hands to volunteer their services in an effort to raise funds for the Children’s National Health System. Designers were selected for participation based on the design proposals submitted to and accepted by organization’s design selection committee. Since its 2008 inception, the D.C. Design House has attracted over 55,000 visitors and raised more than $1 million.
