BURLINGTON, N.C. - Sunbrella and David Rockwell recently announced Currents, an inaugural collection of 35 nature-inspired performance fabrics designed for high-traffic indoor and outdoor commercial spaces. The new collection balances varying yarn textures with rich colors to create abstract interpretations of earth, air, and water with fabrics that provide comforting softness and trusted performance.
“David Rockwell is a visionary known for transforming spaces into immersive environments where people can experience design with warmth and connectivity,” said Tracy Greene, design director at Sunbrella. “Nature in its most basic elements became our inspiration, capturing the harmony of togetherness and comfort that can elevate any space, both indoor and outdoor.”
Rockwell Group’s passion for creating cohesive spaces that bridge interior and exterior spaces combined with the performance of Sunbrella fabrics results in a highly durable, bleach-cleanable and fade-resistant collection that delivers abrasion resistance of 90,000-100,000 double rubs to meet the needs of the most demanding commercial spaces.
“We’re in a peak hybrid moment, where the boundaries between work and home, indoors and out, public and private space, have never been more porous,” said David Rockwell, founder and president, Rockwell Group. “With Currents, we were excited to create a collection that also moves seamlessly between all of these worlds, offering comfort, beauty, and a biophilic quality in the process.”
Both inspired by nature and designed to withstand it, the patterns from the Sunbrella x David Rockwell Collection include:
• Lotus – Inspired by the swirling root patterns of its namesake plant, Lotus is based in the earth element while conveying the organic movement of both air and water.
• Mountain – This large-scale pattern emulates the shadows of a mountain skyline. Woven with a rich chenille yarn, Mountain mirrors the harmony of Earth’s harsh edges meeting the softness of air and sky.
• Cassava – Woven with a slub yarn to mimic bark cloth and deliver the authentic feel of handwoven pieces, Cassava is offered in a range of colors, from moody blues and airy neutrals to botanical greens and warmer terra-cottas.
• Metamorphic – This large bouclé is supremely rich in texture and designed to mimic the range of nature’s dynamic surfaces.
• Leaf Structure – True to its name, Leaf Structure artistically interprets a microscopic view of the structure of leaves, delicately balancing the geometric with the organic symmetry found in nature.
• Undercurrent – As the collection’s representation of the water element, Undercurrent is woven with a nuanced “bouclette” yarn that captures the depth, currents and ripples of the ocean.
The collection is available for purchase directly from Sunbrella or through Trivantage, with samples available via Trivantage and, beginning in June, Material Bank.
