Phifer Taps Fabric Design Director

TUSCALOOSA, AL - Specialty textile manufacturer Phifer Incorporated is pleased to announce the promotion of Monica Thornton to director of design.
With more than 24 years in the outdoor fabric arena, Thornton possesses a vast, in-depth knowledge of the industry and its global evolution over the last 20 years. She has been employed as senior designer at Phifer for the past three years and previously held design and marketing positions as a consultant in outdoor furniture development, design manager for an outdoor furniture company and as creative director with a replacement cushion company.
“Monica has been an integral part of our Designed Fabrics team, creating fabric collections that have made Phifer a leader in design,” said Hugo Benitez, national market manager of Phifer’s Designed Fabrics. ”Her knowledge of outdoor furniture markets has been instrumental in Phifer’s continued growth worldwide.”
Thornton will head up trend and design efforts for the Designed Fabrics division, the umbrella over Phifer’s sling and indoor/outdoor high performance fabric lines. Using her unique industry perspective, she will also work with outdoor furniture retailers on product education as well as to gain their confidence and involvement with Phifer products. Thornton will report to the Vice President of Design Carol Wilkin and is based out of Tuscaloosa, Ala.
