Libby Langdon Partners with NorthCape on Her Latest Collection

NEW YORK - Libby Langdon, interior designer, author and television personality, is designing her first line of outdoor furniture for NorthCape, a manufacturer of woven outdoor furniture, set to launch at the July 2016 ICFA Preview Show. 

Known for her “easy, elegant, everyday style” and her growing collections of branded home furnishings, Langdon focuses on offering beautifully made products that are sleek and chic, as well as affordable. “I wanted to design my own outdoor collection because it is such an important part to the majority of homes I design, and I want to show people how to take advantage and utilize all of their outdoor spaces,” said Langdon. “It’s amazing when I place multiple sofas, chairs, tables, ottomans, rugs, outdoor lamps and accessories that people start to see how much square footage they would have wasted if they just added a couple of chairs and a table.”

Langdon’s NorthCape introductions will feature three collections, including a chat group, a dining group and a deep seating group. It was Langdon’s presentation at the Casual Living Conference that was the initial step toward her partnership with NorthCape.

She had done an interview for the magazine about trends in outdoor living as well as her desire to create a line of outdoor furniture. Buzz Homsy, president of Casual Classics, read the article and contacted Langdon. They found they had the same vision to create a dynamic collection of outdoor furniture.

Homsy introduced Langdon to the NorthCape team in July 2015. From that initial meeting, they formed a partnership to create Langdon’s designs in time for the July 2016 event. Casual Classics will be offering their North American dealers the Libby Langdon Outdoor Collection for distribution across the U.S.

“NorthCape has worked with Buzz and CCG for many years,” said Tom Murray, president of NorthCape. “When Buzz mentioned that there might be an interesting opportunity for NorthCape to enhance our program working with a high energy, successful, experienced designer, I was immediately intrigued. When I met Libby I knew we were onto something good; her style direction, ideas, and energy are infectious. We are eager to put her creative insights and designs into production helping our dealers deliver stronger casual furniture sales and margins.”

Langdon’s designs will feature clean lines, beautiful fabric and color combinations as well as focus on offering comfort, value and a designer look. “I’m incorporating different materials in fresh new ways,” said Langdon. “There will be various woven pieces, an interesting use of metal elements, and some exciting new outdoor product materials that I never even knew existed! As a designer, I find that people rely on me to mix different styles and pieces together to create a cohesive design that’s avoids a ‘matchy-matchy’ look. With my outdoor designs, I will be showing multiple materials within the same collections. It adds depth, dimension and visual interest to the collection.”

Langdon draws inspirations for her designs from conversations with consumers across the country. She explained: “My design inspiration process begins with all the one-on-one time I spend working with clients and consumers, listening to what they like and don’t like, it informs my product design. There are common threads in every outdoor space I create and I’m lucky that I get to travel into real people’s homes across America, I use all of that invaluable information and inject it into looks that I know people want to live with.”

NorthCape has showrooms in Chicago and Las Vegas, and Langdon will be attending the July ICFA Preview Show and Casual Market Chicago in September.
