The Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association (HPBA) has appointed Richard Ali as its Director of Government Affairs starting July 2, 2012. Mr. Ali, formerly with the lobbying firm Capital Action Network, brings a wealth of association lobbying to HPBA. “Rich’s extensive background in lobbying, federal legislative and regulatory activities and codes and standards is exactly what we were looking for to head our government affairs department,” reported Jack Goldman, president and CEO of HPBA. “We are currently involved in several regulatory challenges and his experience will help us immensely.” He will head up the department staff of four.
Mr. Ali’s past experience includes positions as director of government affairs at The Irrigation Association, the National Spa & Pool Institute, and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry and director of political affairs at the Associated Builders & Contractors. His experience also includes developing grass roots campaigns, creating coalitions and developing a national consumer awareness program. Mr. Ali’s experience in codes and standards issues will be valuable as HPBA and the fireplace industry negotiates new green building codes and efficiency standards. Mr. Ali graduated magna cum laude from Ohio University in Political Science/Journalism.
