British Fires Receives Stamp of Royal Approval

CHRISTCHURCH, ENG - British Fires, part of Focal Point Fires Ltd., has been honored with a King’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category, one of the highest accolades a UK business can receive.

Approved by His Majesty King Charles III, the award places British Fires in rare company within the fireplace and heating sector. The formal presentation will take place at St James’s Palace, a fitting setting to mark a milestone achieved through years of product innovation, consistent quality, and trusted relationships with partners worldwide.

British Fires’ international sales has seen rapid growth across Europe, North America, Australia, and the UAE. That momentum has been built side-by-side with distributors, retailers, and installation partners who bring the brand to life in local markets, earning what the company calls its own “royal stamp of approval” from customers through reliability, performance, and design.

Founded in 1983, the business is still owned by the founding partners Ivor Mitchell and Alan Pryke. Under their leadership, British Fires has evolved into an internationally recognized brand, with the King’s Award marking one of the proudest moments in the company’s history.

At the heart of this success is a relentless focus on quality. British Fires has helped redefine expectations for electric fireplaces, elevating them from functional appliances to centerpieces of modern interior design. The brand’s Deluxe Real Log fuel bed has been widely recognized as a category-shaping innovation, delivering a strikingly authentic flame-and-log experience without the drawbacks associated with traditional wood-burning fires.

As more homeowners seek lower-emission options, electric fireplaces can provide warmth and ambiance without on-site combustion of solid fuels. British Fires’ approach brings together premium design, advanced lighting technology, and responsible manufacturing—positioning the brand at the intersection of luxury and sustainability.

Michael Athay, managing director of British Fires, said: “We’re honored to receive the King’s Award for Enterprise. It’s a proud moment for our entire team and a reflection of the passion and commitment that drives us forward. Our international growth has been built on strong partnerships and a shared belief in creating products that truly stand apart. To have that work recognized at the highest level—and in such a historic setting—is something we’re proud to share with everyone who has been part of the journey.”

While the King’s Awards span every industry across the UK, recognition within the fireplace and heating category is relatively rare, making this achievement an especially notable distinction for British Fires.
